Chat
Chat is for internal team communication. Use channels for shared topics and direct messages for one-to-one conversations.
Find your conversations
Section titled “Find your conversations”Open Chat from the Operations section. Chat Home highlights recent and unread conversations. Search can find channels, people, and messages, either across Chat or inside the current channel.
Unread counts, typing indicators, and presence update as teammates work. Drafts are saved per user and conversation so unfinished messages remain available when you return.
Channels
Section titled “Channels”Channels can be:
- Public — visible to the workspace and open for members to join
- Private — visible only to invited members
Create a channel with a short, recognizable name such as support, sales, or project-acme. Channel members can invite or remove people according to their permissions, and users can join or leave public channels.
Channel settings also provide notification controls and, for authorized members, archive or delete actions.
Direct messages
Section titled “Direct messages”Use a direct message for a private one-to-one conversation. The Chat dock can keep active direct messages available while you work elsewhere in Workstation.
Write messages
Section titled “Write messages”The composer supports:
- bold, italic, underline, strike-through, lists, and links
- inline code and code blocks
- emoji and @mentions
- file attachments
- text snippets
- voice messages
- polls in channels
Polls can allow multiple choices, revoting, correct answers, a duration, and hidden results. Polls are available in channels rather than direct messages or thread replies.
Threads and message actions
Section titled “Threads and message actions”Reply in a thread when a discussion belongs to one message and should not interrupt the main channel. Threads keep decisions, clarifications, and follow-up together.
Depending on authorship and permissions, message actions include reacting, copying, forwarding, editing, and deleting.
Search
Section titled “Search”Search can cover the current channel or all Chat. Use a distinctive customer name, project reference, decision phrase, or teammate mention to narrow the results. Recent searches are retained for quick reuse.
Notifications
Section titled “Notifications”Each channel can notify for:
- everything
- mentions
- nothing
Channels and direct messages can also be muted for a selected period. When web push or the desktop app is available, Chat can show native notifications and update the app badge.
