# Goals

> Set targets for people or teams, per week, month, quarter, or year, and track progress automatically.

A goal says what to measure, who it is for, and how much they should reach in each period. For example: "Deals won — each sales rep, 10 per month." Workstation counts progress for you from the records your team already works on, such as deals, activities, and tickets.

Each goal has its own measurement built in. There is no separate setup step: you pick a template or build your own measure while creating the goal.

## Create a goal

1. Open **Performance → Goals**.
2. Click **Create goal** and choose **Create from template** or **Create from scratch**.
3. Work through the three steps: **Setup**, **Targets**, and **Notifications**.
4. Click **Save goal**.

### Step 1: Setup

- **Template** — choose a ready-made measure, or **Custom goal (build your own)**. Use **View definition** to see exactly what a template counts.
- **Goal name** — defaults to the template name; change it if you want.
- **Contributors** — who the goal is for:

| Option | How targets work |
| --- | --- |
| **Individual users** | Each person gets their own target. |
| **Team goals only** | One target per team. Everyone in the team counts toward it. |
| **Team goal with individual user targets** | You set a target for each person. The team target is their total. |

- **Cadence** — how often the target resets: **Weekly** (week 1 is the week that holds January 1st), **Monthly**, **Quarterly**, **Yearly**, or **Non-recurring** (one target with your own start and end date).

Teams are the [departments](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/administration/departments) set up in **Settings → Team**.

### Step 2: Targets

The targets grid shows one row per person or team and one column per period of the year. Use the arrows to move to the previous or next year.

- Type a target in any period. Only targets above zero are saved, so you can leave quiet months empty or set higher targets for busy seasons.
- Select several rows, then use **Fill selected rows** to give everyone the same target for every period.
- For goals on deals or contacts, you can limit each row to specific **Pipelines**. Leave it empty to count all pipelines.
- **Yearly total** adds up each row; team totals are worked out from their people.

### Step 3: Notifications

Choose which notifications the goal's contributors receive:

- **Goal kick-off** — when a new period starts.
- **Goal becomes achieved** — as soon as a target reaches 100%.
- **Goal becomes exceeded** — when a period ends above 100% of its target.
- **Goal becomes missed** — when a period ends below 100% of its target.

People can still turn individual channels on or off in their [notification preferences](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/administration/notifications).

## Goal templates

Open **Create from template** (or **Browse goal templates**) to pick from ready-made goals, grouped into Sales, Activities, and Service:

| Category | Templates |
| --- | --- |
| Sales | Revenue won, Deals won, Deals created, Contacts created, Accounts created, Quotes created, Revenue invoiced, Payments collected |
| Activities | Activities completed, Calls made, Meetings booked, Tasks completed, Emails logged, Notes created |
| Service | Tickets created, Tickets closed, Projects completed |

Each template states who a record counts for. For example, deals count for the deal owner and tickets count for the ticket assignee. Amount templates such as **Revenue won** add up values in your base currency, so records in different currencies count fairly.

## Build your own goal

Choose **Create from scratch** (or **Build your own** in the template gallery) when no template fits. You then decide:

- **Record** — Deals, Activities, Tickets, Projects, Invoices, Quotes, Contacts, or Accounts.
- **Measure** — **Number of records**, **Total of a field**, or **Average of a field**. For total and average, pick the numeric **Field**.
- **Count it on** — the date that places a record in a period, such as the created date or the close date.
- **Only count records where** — add conditions on any native field or custom [property](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/administration/properties), for example "Stage is Won" or "Type is Call".

The record type and date field you choose affect every period, so check them before you fill in targets.

## Track progress

The Goals page has three tabs:

- **Goals overview** — one row per goal.
- **Team performance** — goals grouped under each team.
- **User performance** — goals grouped under each person.

Use the breakdown menu to switch the columns between **Total progress breakdown**, **Quarterly breakdown**, **Monthly breakdown**, and **Weekly breakdown**. Filter by goal template, goal name, team, or pipeline, and use **Display options** to hide columns. All of these choices stay in the page URL, so you can share a view with a colleague.

Click a goal to open it. The goal page shows:

- the current period's **Current**, **Target**, and **Remaining** values;
- **By contributor** — each person or team's progress for the period. Click a row to see the **Records counted**, which is the fastest way to check an unexpected number;
- **By period** — progress across every period of the goal.

Statuses you may see are **Not started**, **In progress**, **Achieved**, **Exceeded**, **Missed**, and **No target**.

## Export and report

- **Export** downloads the Goals table as a CSV file, using the same filters, year, and breakdown you see on screen.
- **Create goal report** builds a report in [Reports](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/analytics/reports) from the **Goals** data source. Pick a goal, choose users or teams, and choose a **Gauge** (total progress), **Line** (progress over time), or **Bar** (progress by person or team) chart.

## Edit or delete a goal

Open the goal and click **Edit** to change its setup, targets, or notifications. Changing the cadence clears the targets, because they belong to the old periods.

Deleting a goal removes it and all of its targets. Commission statements that already used the goal are kept.

## Permissions and visibility

- **kpis.view** opens the Goals page. **kpis.create**, **kpis.update**, and **kpis.delete** control creating, editing, and deleting goals.
- Members without `kpis.view` still see their own goals on the [KPI Dashboard](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/performance/kpi-dashboard).
- Goals follow your workspace's [data visibility](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/administration/departments#data-access). Editing a goal never changes targets for people outside what you can see.
