# Segments

> Build reusable dynamic or static audiences from CRM and customer records.

Segments are saved groups of records. They are most often used as the audience for [Send](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/marketing/send) campaigns and sequences, but they are also useful for exports, bulk assignments, tasks, and focused follow-up.

## Dynamic and static segments

- A **dynamic segment** uses saved conditions. Its members change as records change.
- A **static segment** is a fixed list. You add and remove members by hand.

Segments can be built for Contacts, Accounts, Deals, Tickets, Invoices, and Conversations. The record type can't be changed after the segment is created.

Visibility can be **Private** (only you), **Department** (members of a department and its sub-teams), or **Organization** (everyone).

## Start from the starter set

To get going quickly, click **Templates** on the Segments page. It offers a ready-made set of common audiences grouped as Clients, Engagement, Sales, and Billing, such as New clients, Lapsed clients, Hot leads, Email subscribers, Big deals, Won this quarter, and Unpaid invoices.

All templates are selected by default. Uncheck the ones you don't want and add the rest in one step. Templates whose name already exists as a segment are skipped, so it's safe to run again.

## Build a dynamic segment

1. Open **Marketing → Segments**.
2. Click **New segment**.
3. Choose the record type and **Dynamic**.
4. Add conditions using native fields or custom [Properties](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/administration/properties).
5. Choose whether records must match **all** or **any** of the conditions, and add groups for more complex logic.
6. Save, then open the segment to check its members.

Conditions support text, number, choice, and date comparisons, including relative dates such as "in the last 30 days" or "more than 3 months ago". Start with a few rules and check the members before adding more.

### Conditions on related records

Use **Add related records** to match records by what is linked to them. For example, "Contacts that have a matching record in Deals where stage is Negotiation", or "Accounts that have no matching record in Invoices".

All conditions inside one related-records block must match the same related record. With no conditions, the block only checks whether any related record exists.

## Work with members

From a segment record you can:

- **Refresh** a dynamic segment's member count;
- add or remove members of a static segment;
- **Export CSV** of the current members;
- take a **Snapshot** that freezes the current members;
- select members to assign an owner, create tasks, or delete them, where your permissions allow.

Snapshots are useful when you need the exact audience at a point in time, even if the rules match different records later.

## Use a segment in Send

Send campaigns and sequences use **Contact** segments:

- A **Send once** campaign freezes the segment's members at launch.
- A **Send continuously** campaign keeps adding contacts who newly match.
- A **sequence** enrolls current members and anyone who matches later, once per contact.

The same rule builder is used for custom audience rules in Send and for the qualified and converted definitions in [Ads](https://workstation.repzo.com/docs/marketing/ads).
